26 February, 2019

The Council for the Judiciary supported the budget request of regional courts and district (city) courts prepared by the Ministry of Justice, as well as the Supreme Court’s budget request for this year. At the same time, the decision recalls the need to increase the remuneration of the judicial employees, which has now become critically uncompetitive.

The first priority in the range of priorities of the Supreme Court, of regional courts and of district (city) courts approved by the Council for the Judiciary last August was to increase the remuneration of judges and courts’ employees.

By enforcing the judgment of the Constitutional Court, the salaries of judges have been increased this year. However, the executive has deleted the increase of the remuneration of the courts’ employees from the priorities of the state budget of 2019.

In its decision adopted on 25 February, the Council for the Judiciary reminds about this priority as absolutely necessary for the quality of judicial work. Janis Bordans, the Minister of Justice, expressed his belief that this point will be on the list of priorities of the next year's budget to be drawn up by the new government.
