The Council for the Judiciary extended the validity of the current procedure for selection, traineeship and taking of qualification examination of a candidate to the office of a judge until January 1, 2020, for the elaboration of a new procedure is related to amendments to the Law “On Judicial Power”, which is still in the preparation process.
When in 2018 the Council for the Judiciary approved the current procedure for selection of judicial candidates, it was established that it would operate until December 31, 2018, when the Ministry of Justice would prepare a new concept, providing for the establishment and maintenance of a centralized list of candidates for the judicial office, different procedure for selection of judicial candidates and training of young judges in terms of content.
Considering that the elaboration of the new procedure is related to amendments to the law “On Judicial Power”, the Council for the Judiciary already once extended the validity of the existing procedure until June 1, 2019, but at the request of the Ministry of Justice it was extended for the second time – until the end of 2019.
