Three candidates – Prosecutor General Juris Stukāns, Head Prosecutor Aivars Ostapko and Prosecutor Uvis Kozlovskis have applied for the post of Prosecutor General in the competition announced by the Judicial Council.
The concepts for the development of the Prosecutor's Office submitted by the candidates will be published on the website of the Judicial Council and on the internet portal of the Latvian official publisher “Latvijas Vēstnesis” after the positive opinion of the Constitution Protection Bureau on compliance with the requirements of the law for obtaining a special permit for access to state secrets is received.
The Judicial Council plans to hear the candidates for the post of Prosecutor General at its meeting on 25 April 2025.
The candidate who receives the majority of votes of the Judicial Council members will be nominated for confirmation by the Saeima.

It has already been reported that the application for the Prosecutor General's post closed on 31 January 2025.
On 11 July 2025, the term of office of the current Prosecutor General, Juris Stukāns, will end.
