The Judicial Council has supported the Prosecutor General's proposal to amend the provisions regarding group of maximum monthly salaries of prosecutor's office employees specified in the Law on Remuneration of Officials and Employees of State and Local Government Authorities. So far it has been Group 8, the Judicial Council recommends changing it to Group 13.
Prosecutor General Juris Stukans, submitting such a proposal to the Saeima (Parliament) Public Administration and Local Government Committee, justifies it with the need to strengthen the institute of the prosecutor’s assistant in order to make the work of the Prosecutor's Office more efficient in general. A number of activities performed by the prosecutor on a daily basis will be further entrusted to the prosecutor’s assistant, thus increasing the workload and responsibility. The institute of the prosecutor’s assistant should be equal to the institute of the judge’s assistant both in terms of the scope of rights and obligations and in terms of remuneration.
The Judicial Council adopted the decision on November 27 in a written procedure.
