On Tuesday, May 31, within the project "Consolidation of the Justice System in Armenia", a delegation of the Armenian judiciary visited the Supreme Court. Senator of the Department of Criminal Cases of the Supreme Court Ivars Bičkovičs and representatives of the Secretariat of the Judicial Council Alla Spale and Irina Čaša shared the experience of the Latvian justice system and of the work of the Latvian Judicial Council.

Senator Ivars Bičkovičs informed the Armenian delegation about the Latvian justice system and the cassation instance, as well as drew attention to the features of cassation proceedings in Latvia. Ivars Bičkovičs also introduced the delegation to the formation process and accessibility of the Supreme Court case law.

Alla Spale, Head of the Secretariat of the Judicial Council, introduced the colleagues to the institutional model of the Judicial Council and its functions. Alla Spale provided an insight into the work priorities of the Judicial Council in 2022.

During the visit, issues related to the procedure for selecting candidates for the position of a judge and the career development of judges in Latvia were also discussed.

Furthermore, the Armenian delegation visited the great courtroom and museum of the Supreme Court.

It has already been communicated that representatives of the Armenian judiciary are visiting Latvia from May 30 to June 2 to learn about the Latvian judicial system. The Armenian delegation shall visit several other Latvian institutions during the week, namely the Court Administration, the Ministry of Justice, the Latvian Judicial Training Centre, the Riga Regional Court, the Riga City Pardaugava Court and the Economic Court.
