On Thursday, July 27, in a written procedure, the Judicial Council decided that this year’s Latvian Judges Extramural Conference will take place on October 23-24. At the Conference, it is planned to re-elect the members of the Judicial Council and the self-government institutions of judges.
At the Conference, one member of the Judicial Council should be elected from among district (city) court judges, as the term of office of the current member of the Judicial Council Aija Āva, the judge of the Kurzeme Regional Court, will expire.
The four-year term of office of the current member of the Judicial Qualification Committee Marianna Terjuhana, the judge of the Zemgale Regional Court, is coming to an end.
Seven members of the Judicial Disciplinary Committee have to be re-elected – two judges from among district (city) court judges, three regional court judges, one Supreme Court senator of the Department of Administrative Cases, and one senator of the Department of Civil Cases. The four-year term of office of senator Valerijs Maksimovs, the current Chair of the Committee, judge Alla Šilova, the Deputy-Chair of the Committee, members of the Committee – senator Līvija Slica, judge Kaspars Berķis, judge Inguna Preisa, judge Ilze Freimane and judge Ilona Rūķe expires.
The Latvian Judges Extramural Conference will be chaired by Māris Vīgants, the judge of the Riga Regional Court's Civil Division, while the duties of the secretary will be fulfilled by Ināra Zariņa, the judge of the Riga District Court.

The Latvian Judges Conference is a self-government institution of judges, which is convened by the Judicial Council at least once a year. Judges of district (city) courts, regional courts and the Supreme Court take part in the Conference.
The Rules of the Latvian Judges Conference approved by the Judicial Council stipulates that the Conference can also take place in remotely via information technology.
