This week, from September 13 to 15, the members of the Judicial Council are visiting Japan for an exchange of experience and thus are meeting with the heads of Japanese judicial institutions in order to learn about the work of the courts, as well as to strengthen cooperation between Latvian and Japanese judicial institutions.

Aigars Strupišs, the Chair of the Judicial Council and the President of the Supreme Court of Latvia, states that "the purpose of the visit is to identify the main factors that facilitate and ensure the operation of Japanese courts. The Japanese court system is known for its very high efficiency, and I hope that this good practice could be used to improve the operation of the Latvian court system."

During the visit, members of the Judicial Council are going to visit the Legal Training and Research Institute, the first instance courts and appellate courts in Tokyo, as well as the Supreme Court of Japan. Members of the Judicial Council are also going to meet with Zigmārs Zilgalvis, the Ambassador of Latvia to Japan.

The Latvian delegation includes Aigars Strupišs, the Chair of the Judicial Council and the President of the Supreme Court, Dzintra Balta, the Vice-Chair of the Judicial Council and the Senator of the Department of Civil Cases of the Supreme Court, Guntars Ploriņš, the Member of the Judicial Council, the Chair of the Valmiera Courthouse of the Administrative District Court, and Alla Spale, the Head of the Secretariat of the Judicial Council.
