The Council for the Judiciary supported appointment of Juris Stukans, the judge of Riga regional court, to the office of the Chair of the Judicial Panel of Criminal Cases, deputy Chair of Riga regional court for the term of five years.

Juris Stukans has acquired Master’s degree in Law and Bachelor’s degree in Economics; currently he is doctoral student At Riga Stradins University. Juris Stukans  has 14-years’ experience in the office of a judge and executive office – he had been deputy Chair of Riga city Ziemelu district court  and acting Chair of Riga regional court. The judge participates in several permanent work groups  on assessment and elaboration of amendments to laws – work group on Criminal Procedure Law, Criminal Law and Latvian Code of Administrative Violations, and he also reads lectures at the Latvian Judicial Training Centre.

The decision was adopted by the Council for the Judiciary at the sitting of 23 May.
