In order to equalize the judges' workload and reduce the volume of pending cases in the first instance, Council for the Judiciary decided by 1 July 2017 to transfer one judicial position from Aizkraukle District Court to Riga City Latgale District Court, one position – from Aluksne District Court to Riga City Vidzeme District Court, one position – from Daugavpils Court to Riga District Court and from October 1 – one judicial position shall be transferred from Rezekne Court to Riga City Vidzeme District Court.
Also from July 1, one position in Land Registry Office of Madona District Court will be transferred to Land Registry Office of Riga City Vidzeme District Court.
Positions are to be moved where vacancies for judges have emerged.
Currently targeted regional judicial capacity usage is achieved by transferring cases from Riga city courts to regional courts according to procedures stipulated in Section 32.1. It equalizes the judges' workload and amount of time needed for adjudication of cases, but this is a temporary solution, deadline of which is stated in the law – 31 December 2018.
The Council for the Judiciary adopted the decision in the sitting of 12 June, 2017.
