In order to achieve the goals set out in the Judicial Council's operational strategy, the Judicial Council set up a working group to strengthen the efficiency of the judiciary.
Five members of the Judicial Council have been delegated to take part in the working group – Aija Ava, Chair of Kurzeme District Court, Zigmunds Dundurs, Judge of Riga City Vidzeme District Court, Janis Bordans, Minister of Justice, Juris Stukans, Prosecutor General, and Janis Rozenbergs, Chair of the Council of Sworn Advocates.
The task of the working group is to develop an action plan and to recommend priorities for the implementation of the tasks of the line of action “Efficient and high-quality judiciary” set out in the Judicial Council Operational Strategy for 2021–2025. The working group must inform the Judicial Council about the fulfilment of the task by October 15.
When discussing the establishment and operation of the working group, the Judicial Council agreed that the working group would not duplicate other working groups of the Ministry of Justice, the Court Administration or the Judicial Council, but there will be cooperation among them and the new working group will serve as a strategic centre for issues regarding efficiency of the judiciary. The information gathered by the working group, the materials prepared and the priorities set will be the basis for a qualitative examination of the issues in the Judicial Council.
The decision was adopted by the Judicial Council in a written procedure on June 14.
