Starting from November 1, the survey for judges which shall establish the opinion of judges regarding the aspects of independence of the judiciary and judges in their respective countries has been launched across Europe. This survey is carried out by the EuropeanNetwork of Councils for the Judiciary (ENCJ).
The survey data will be analyzed and widely used both in elaboration of documents on the studies at the European level (EU Justice Scoreboard) and for the policy documents of courts in the Member States.
Nuria Diaz Abad, the ENCJ President, in letter addressed to judges indicates that the results of the survey will be the basis for further discussion on the independence of judges across Europe. ENCJ considers that it is important for both the EU Member States and candidate countries to guarantee the independence of judges. ENCJ is also collaborating with the European Commission.
The first such ENCJ survey on the independence of judges was conducted at the beginning of 2015. There participated about 6,000 judges from EU Member States and candidate countries.
