The Council for the Judiciary decided to dedicate Latvian Judges’ Conference to issues related to judicial ethics.

Such decision is related to the fact that themain composition of the Judicial Ethics’ Committee, which has worked in the committee since 2008, must be re-elected this year.  In accordance with the law “On Judicial Power”, a member of the Judicial Ethics’ Committee is elected for the term of four years, and not more than for two consecutive terms.

It has been planned to listen to experience of former members of the Judicial Ethics’ Committee and vision of nominated following members at the Judies’ Conference. It has also been planned to publish the collection of conclusions of the Judicial Ethics’ Committee, and, in cooperation with the University of Latvia, to carry out examination of regulations on judicial ethics.

It has been envisaged to convene the Judges’ Conference on 13 May.
