At the sitting of December 10, the Council for the Judiciary appointed two deputy chairs of district courts: Ilze Freimane as deputy chair of Riga District Court in Jurmala, Lolita Laure as deputy chair of Kurzeme District Court.

The Council for the Judiciary ruled on the transfer of two judges to a higher court. Anita Kovalevska, judge of the Administrative Regional Court, was transferred to the position of a judge of the Department of Administrative Cases of the Supreme Court, while Guna Krievina, judge of Vidzeme District Court was transferred to the position of judge at Vidzeme Regional Court.

These were the first decisions following amendments to the law "On Judicial Power", whereby the transfer of judges to a higher court no longer takes place by a decision of the Saeima, it is the competence of the Council for the Judiciary.

The Council for the Judiciary also decided on the temporary execution of the judicial duties by three judges. Judges of the Administrative Regional Court Ieva Viskere and Valters Pokis were appointed to replace the Supreme Court judges during the temporary absence. Both judges, for a maximum of two years, will replace the absent judges in the Department of Administrative Cases. In turn, in order to fill the vacant position of a judge in the Administrative Regional Court, the Administrative District Court judge Inga Juhnevica-Koka was instructed to replace the Administrative Regional Court judge during the temporary absence.

The decision was adopted by the Council for the Judiciary at the sitting of December 10, 2018.
