On Saturday, November 10, Zigmunds Dundurs, judge of Riga City Vidzeme District Court, was elected as a representative of district (city) courts in the Council for the Judiciary by means of electronic voting.
Three candidates were nominated for election of a member of the Council for the Judiciary. All of them were heard at the Judges’ Conference on November 3, but the voting took place electronically at an extra-curricular conference.
209 of the 361 judges voted for Zigmunds Dundurs. In total, the Court Administration had sent 564 individual voter codes to judges.
In accordance with the Regulation of the Judges’ Conference, the conference is entitled to adopt decisions if more than half of the total number of judges is present. A candidate who receives the majority votes of judges present shall be deemed to be elected.
The member of the Council for the Judiciary had to be re-elected from among district (city) judges due to the fact that the former judge of Bauska District Court, Aigars Sniediztis, has become a judge of Zemgale Regional Court.
The term of office of a member of the Council for the Judiciary is four years.
