Marianna Terjuhana, the judge of Zemgale regional court, who currently discharges duties of a judge in the Chamber of Civil Cases of the Supreme Court for the term of a vacancy of a judge, is elected to the Judicial Qualification Committee in the second round of electronic elections.
Yesterday, during the first round of elections, elections of a member of the Judicial Qualification Committee ended with no result, because none from among three nominate candidates received majority of votes of judges, who participated in the e-Conference. In the second round, judges voted for two candidates, who received majority of votes in the first round.
328 from among 558 Latvian judges participated in the second round of elections.
Representative from judicial panels of civil cases of regional courts had to be elected to the Judicial Qualification Committee because Anna Biksiniece, the judge of Latgale regional court, retired.
The Judicial Qualification Committee is an institution of judicial self-government, which performs assessment of professional activity of judges. The Committee is composed of one representative from each department of the Supreme Court, one representative from judicial panels of criminal cases and judicial panels of civil cases of regional courts, one judge from the Administrative regional court, two judges of district (city) courts and one judge of the Land Registry Office.
Members of the Judicial Qualification Committee are elected for the term of four years.
