On 7-9 June, Ivars Bickovics, Chair of the Council for the Judiciary, and Solvita Harbacevica, Head of the Secretariat of the Council for the Judiciary, participates in the General Assembly of the European Network of Councils for the Judiciary, which this year takes place in Paris and the topic of which is “Resilient Justice”.
Chairs of the Councils for the Judiciary will discuss the accountability, quality and independence of the judiciary, as well as flexible cooperation with the media and the independence of the legislative and executive power. Attention will be drawn to such issues as the image of the judiciary and public confidence in the judicial system and ways to strengthen confidence will be looked for.
General Assembly also addressed organizational issues – election of Board members, a report on the activities of the Network in 2016 and 2017, and operation plan for the next four years.
Special reports will be presented on threats to the independence of the judiciary and the development of situation in Poland and Turkey.
ENCJ is non-profitable organization, which unites the national institutions in the Member States of the European Union which are independent of the executive and legislature. The Association was founded in 2004, to promote cooperation, mutual exchange of experience and analysis of joint information of Councils for the Judiciary of the EU member states. It has also been an opportunity to provide joint information and proposals to the EU institutions.
