The Council for the Judiciary decided to organise extramural Latvian Judges’ Conference to elect representative to the Judicial Qualification Committee from among judges of the Department of Criminal Cases of the Supreme Court in electronic elections.
Until 31 December 2014, when the Chamber of Criminal Cases existed in the structure of the Supreme Court, its representative might be a member of the Judicial Qualification Committee, and these duties were discharged by Ervins Kuskis, the Chair of the Chamber of Criminal Cases.
After liquidation of the Chamber, as the law “On Judicial Power” envisages, there must be one judge of the Department of Criminal Cases in composition of the Judicial Qualification Committee.
The Judicial Qualification Committee also must re-elect the Chair of the Committee, as Ervins Kuskis also held this office.
