On October 15, the Council for the Judiciary will meet in the new composition, as five newly elected representatives of the judiciary have started their work. The first item on the agenda is the election of the deputy chair of the Council for the Judiciary.
One of the key issues addressed at the sitting of the Council for the Judiciary will be the judges' remuneration system. The Council for the Judiciary will assess whether the Constitutional Court's judgment regarding the establishment of a system of remuneration of judges, corresponding to the Satversme (Constitution), ensuring the that actual amount of the remuneration of judges and financial security, in accordance with the principle of the independence of judges, has been fulfilled by draft amendments to the Law On Remuneration of Officials and Employees of State and Local Government Authorities drafted by the State Chancellery.
The Council for the Judiciary will review amendments to the Law "On Judicial Power" before the third reading, including the return of the historical name of the cassation instance – “the Senate”.
The agenda also includes the issue of amendments to the Civil Procedure Law, extending the functioning of Section 321 of the Civil Procedure Law until 31 December 2021, which stipulates the transfer of cases to another court for their faster adjudication, as well as other issues.
The meeting of the Council for the Judiciary will be held on Monday, October 15, at 11.00, in the courtroom 146 of the Supreme Court.
