On Monday, 26 October, the Council for the Judiciary will review an issue concerning reorganisation of courts located in Latgale court region. Plan of reorganisation, which is prepared by the Ministry of Justice, envisages administrative annexation of Ludza district court and Balvi district court and Land Registry offices included therein to Rezekne court. Preili district court and Kraslava district court, and the Land Registry office of Preili will, in turn, be annexed to Daugavpils court.
Several issues on the agenda of the Council for the Judiciary concern organisation of the Judges’ Conference and elections of representatives to institutions of judicial self-government. The Council for the Judiciary will determine date of e-elections of representatives to the Council for the Judiciary, the Judicial Disciplinary Committee, and the Judicial Qualification Committee, and will examine the proposal to amend procedure of determination of results of elections to institutions of judicial self-government, which is envisaged in the Regulation of the Judges’ Conference.
Having got familiarised with the Global Competitiveness Report 2015-2016 prepared by the World Economic Forum, which also provides assessment of the system of justice and rule of law in Latvia, the Council for the Judiciary invited Arnis Sauka, the Director of the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga, which is an institution responsible for summarisation of information in Latvia and providing of information to foreign researchers, to the sitting. The Council for the Judiciary would like to get familiarised with methodology used in the study.
The sitting of the Council for the Judiciary will be held on Monday, 26 October, in Room 461 of the Supreme Court. The beginning is at 13.00 o’clock.
