The Council for the Judiciary supports candidature of Dr. iur. Daiga Rezevska, the professor at the Department of Theory and History of Law of the Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia for the office of a judge of the Constitutional Court.

IN accordance with Section 8911 Paragraph Three of the law “On Judicial Power”, the Council for the Judiciary listens to candidates to the office of a judge of the Constitutional Court  and provides an opinion regarding them to the Saeima (Parliament).

Taking into account that professional activity of the nominated candidate is well-known and transparent to members of the Council for the Judiciary, and observing information by the Presidium of the Saeima concerning urgency of the issue, the Council for the Judiciary reviewed the issue in written procedure on 6 October.

Candidature of Rezevska was nominated by ten members of the Saeima. The candidate had to be nominated, because Kristine Kruma, who, upon recommendation by ten members of the Saeima, was appointed to the office by the Saeima in 2007, has decided to leave the position of a judge of the Constitutional Court as from 15 October.
