The Council for the Judiciary when assessing information on the amendments to the Law on Bailiffs currently discussed in the Saeima, expressed a critical attitude to the unreasonable and unjustified restriction of the amount of remuneration of sworn bailiffs.

The Council for the Judiciary points out that in order to review the amount of remuneration of sworn bailiffs, the impact of changes on the activities of bailiffs should be assessed. The remuneration shall be determined according to the amount of work invested by sworn bailiffs and in proportion to the amount of debt to be recovered, as well as taking into account the responsibilities of the sworn bailiff stated in the laws and regulations, independence requirements and restrictions arising from the position held.

The Council for the Judiciary adopted the decision in the sitting of 5 March 2018.
