The Council for the Judiciary instructed Inese Grauda, the judge of Riga regional court to discharge duties of a judge of the Chamber of Civil Cases of the Supreme Court during the period of a vacancy of a judge.

Inese Grauda has already discharged these duties since May 2013.

The Council for the Judiciary, in turn, instructed Zane Petersone, the judge of Riga regional court, to discharge duties of a judge in the Department of Civil Cases of the Supreme Court during the period of vacancy of a judge.

Zane Petersone has discharged duties of a judge of the Chamber of Civil Cases since 2011.

In accordance with Section 79 of the law “On Judicial Power”, during vacancy of a judge of the Supreme Court, the Council for the Judiciary may assign, upon the proposal of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and upon the receipt of a positive opinion of the Judicial Qualification Committee, a Judge Emeritus of the Supreme Court or a judge of a regional court to substitute him or her for a period of time not exceeding two years.

The Council for the Judiciary agreed with proposal of the Minister of Justice to appoint Ingrida Junghane, the judge of Kurzeme regional court, to the office of the deputy Chair of Kurzeme regional court and the Chair of the Judicial Panel of Criminal Cases for the term of five years.

Ingrida Junghane has discharged these duties since 2010, and she has been the only candidate to this office in the competition announced after expiration of term of office of the deputy Chair of the court stipulated by the law.
