The Council for the Judiciary supports the proposal to include in the calculation of the retirement pension of judges the length of service as a lawyer and academic staff of an accredited university, even if it is less than 10 years. Removal of the restriction imposed so far by the Law on Judges' Retirement Pensions will ensure proportionality and equality in the calculation of the length of service of judges.

The current regulation stipulates that the length of service, which entitles a person to receive retirement pension, includes the time period served as judges and Constitutional Court judges, prosecutors and ombudsmen without a time limit; however the time period served as a lawyer and the academic staff is included in the length of service only if it is not less than 10 years.
