The Council for the Judiciary listened to information of the Court Administration on assessment of Latvian court system, which has been planned within framework of project of European Structural Funds. The assessment will serve as a basis for elaboration of comprehensive plan of development of the system of justice, to support economic development, by improving operation of the system of justice.
It has been envisaged to involve foreign experts in elaboration of the assessment of the system of justice. The assessment will include independent analysis of operation of Latvian court system, and recommendations on improvement and modernisation thereof. Conclusions will be used as a basis for elaboration of long-term policy planning documents and possible amendments to legal provisions.
The Court Administration, which will manage the assessment project, presented the scope, object, methodology of elaboration and expected results of the assessment of the system of justice to the Council for the Judiciary. The deadline of preparation of the assessment is envisaged until the end of 2017.
The Council for the Judiciary delegated Dace Sulmane, the Adviser to the Council for the Judiciary, to be its representative in the work group on preparation of the assessment.
