On Monday, 21 December, the Committee for improvement of legal environment established by the President of the State will participate in the sitting of the Council for the Judiciary to get familiarised with topicalities of work of the Council for the Judiciary. One of first issues of activity of the Committee is strengthening of role and capacity of the Council for the Judiciary.
The agenda of the sitting of the Council for the Judiciary also includes an issue regarding openness in assessment of activity of judges and proposal to make amendments to the Judicial Disciplinary Liability Law, stipulating greater transparency and accessibility of information about examined disciplinary cases. The Judicial Policy Subcommittee of the Legal Affairs Committee of the Saeima (Parliament) urged the Council for the Judiciary to express its attitude towards necessity and possibilities of implementation of such amendments to the law.
Establishing new tradition in public administration, namely, that the minister must report on work performed during his or her term of office to the highest state officials along with announcement of the Prime Minister about resignation, Dzintars Rasnacs, the Minister of Justice, will inform the Council for the Judiciary on his performance in the system of justice.
The agenda of the sitting also includes judicial career and other issues.
The sitting of the Council for the Judiciary will be held on Monday, 21 December, in Room 146 of the Supreme Court, the beginning is at 13.00 o’clock.
