On Monday, June 19, Aigars Strupišs, the Chair of the Judicial Council, met with Claudia Magdalena Njoo Pieterse, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Republic of Latvia. During the meeting, opportunities for cooperation in the implementation of the Latvian Academy of Justice project were discussed.

Opening the meeting, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Latvia congratulated the Chair of the Judicial Council on his election to the Board of the European Network of Councils for the Judiciary (ENCJ).

Aigars Strupišs, the Chair of the Judicial Council, informed Claudia Magdalena Njoo Pieterse, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Latvia, about the progress of the Academy of Justice project. A. Strupišs pointed out that the Academy of Justice will open its doors on January 1, 2025 as a unified training centre aiming to improve the qualifications of judges, court employees, prosecutors, assistants to prosecutors, and investigators in interdisciplinary matters. "The Judicial Council will exercise functional supervision over the Academy of Justice; it will establish the strategic goals, directions and orientations for the development of curricula, as well as it will approve the annual curriculum. Institutional supervision over the Academy of Justice will be ensured by the Cabinet of Ministers," emphasized A. Strupišs.

Both parties agreed to strengthen further cooperation by organizing experience exchange visits between the representatives of the Training and Study Centre for the Judiciary (SSR) of the Netherlands and the promoters of the Academy of Justice project.

The Ambassador stated that the Dutch Training and Study Centre for the Judiciary (SSR) could provide recommendations on the development directions of the Latvian Academy of Justice.

On May 17, 2023, Claudia Magdalena Njoo Pieterse, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Latvia, also met with Inese Lībiņa-Egnere, the Minister of Justice of Latvia, and they agreed on further cooperation in the field of training of judges, as well as regarding the establishment of the Latvian Academy of Justice.
