On Monday, the 10th of December, the Board of Justice will hold its session, in which list for regular assessment of professional work of judges for year 2013 will be approved.
According to Item 41 of Transitional Provisions of the law “On Judicial Power”, the Judicial Qualification Board shall perform the regular evaluation of the professional work of judges of Land Registry Offices, district (city) courts, regional courts and the Supreme Court for the first time from 1 January 2013 until 1 January 2016. Pursuant to the recommendation of the Minister for Justice and the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, the Council of Justice shall approve the list of judges, according to those in succession for which the evaluation of the professional work of a judge is performed.
The Board of Justice will discuss response to the Constitutional Court in case No 2012-16-01, in which the Council of Justice as invited person is asked to give its opinion.
The case was initiated upon application of Janis Neimanis, the senator of the Supreme Court, about correspondence of Paragraph Three Section 86 of the law “On Judicial Power” to Article 102 of Satversme (the Constitution) of the Republic of Latvia. Legal regulation mentioned states that post of a judge is incompatible with affiliation to parties and other political organisations.
The agenda of the session also includes issues of judicial careers.
The session of the Board of Justice will take place in room 461 of the Supreme Court, beginning at 13.00 o’clock.
