Two sessions of the Board of Justice took place in written proceedings in October.

In one session, members of the Board of Justice elected manager and secretary of judicial conference of November 2. Duties of manager of the conference are transferred to Normunds Rinkis, the judge of Riga regional court, and duties of secretary are given to Vita Vjatere, the judge of Riga city Kurzeme district court.

Latvian Judicial Conference is called on the 2nd of November.  

Work of the conference is planned in three parts. In the first part, managers of judicial self-governmental institutions – the Judicial Disciplinary Committee, Judicial Qualifications Committee and Committee on Judicial Ethics – will present their reports. Newly elected Judicial Qualifications Committee will inform on new system of assessment of professional operation of judges that will become effective as from January 1, 2013.

The second part of the conference is dedicated to work of courts according to the European Convention on Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms.

In the third part, the work will be organised in section according to branches of law.

Staying in post of the judge Dargis is prolonged

The Board of Justice also decided in written proceedings to prolong term of stay of the judge of Liepaja city court Jozas Dargis in his post until October 19, 2014.

Positive statement for prolongation of term of office of the judge after reaching the maximum age of a judge of district (city) court – 65 years – was given by Judicial Qualifications Committee.
