The Council for the Judiciary heard a report of the Court Administration on the performance results in 2018.
In his report the Director of the Court Administration mentioned such important achievements as the reform of the courts of first instance, the integration of the land registry judges into general courts, the reform of the judges' remuneration, the extension of employees’ competences, the reform regarding judiciary’s interpreters, the elaboration of the register of complaints, improvements regarding courthouses and the improvement of judicial communication.
The mission of the Court Administration is to provide the highest level of professional service to the courts by the use of innovative methods. As the Director of the Court Administration pointed out – the level of the use of electronic services or the e-index at the Court Administration is high - 95%, the use of e-signatures has increased by 400%.
Various projects are widely implemented, and it is not that the employees educate only themselves within those projects, they can also teach others. The Court Administration implements the European Social Fund project “Justice for Development”, introduces an e-case project, participates in a co-operation project in Ukraine and Twining project in Georgia.
This year’s challenges for the Court Administration include the promotion of public confidence in the judiciary, the increase of the remuneration of judicial staff, as well as the continuation of e-case projects, the integration of land registers in general courts and the development of the Business Intelligence Tool.
Report on the performance results of the Court Administration was the last report by Edvins Balsevics, Director of the Court Administration, in this office. Already on June 4, he took office as State Secretary of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development of the Republic of Latvia. The Council for the Judiciary expressed gratitude to Edvins Balsevics for successful and modern management of the Court Administration, providing professional support for the work and development of the courts.
