From June 12 to 14, Aigars Strupišs, Chair of the Latvian Judicial Council, is participating in the General Assembly of the European Network of Councils for the Judiciary (ENCJ) in Rome (Italy). This year, the ENCJ General Assembly plans to discuss access to justice.

The ENCJ member states will discuss access to justice in these countries, access to justice for migrants and the impact of artificial intelligence on access to justice.

At the ENCJ General Assembly, it is planned to elect a new ENCJ president and Board members, as well as to review the work results of ENCJ in 2023/2024 and to outline ENCJ's tasks for the following year.

The General Assembly will also report on the work done by the working groups. It is planned to approve the guidelines for strengthening the professional attractiveness of the judge's career, which were developed by the representatives of the ENCJ member states under the leadership of the Chair of the Latvian Judicial Council Aigars Strupišs and the representative of the High Council of Justice of Belgium.

Moreover, at the ENCJ General Assembly, an award will be presented to one of the ENCJ member states for positive changes in the judicial system.

It has already been reported that on June 7, 2023, the Chair of the Judicial Council Aigars Strupišs was elected to the ENCJ Board as a representative of the Judicial Council of Latvia. Aigars Strupišs shall fulfil his duties as a member of the ENCJ Board until the ENCJ General Assembly takes place in 2025.

The purpose of the establishment of ENCJ is to promote the cooperation of the Judicial Councils of the EU member states, the mutual exchange of experience and the analysis of shared information.
